Weather roller coaster continues this weekendBy JANINE LOGUE Bucks County Courier Times From shorts weather last Saturday to inches of snow on Sunday, back to record high temperatures on Wednesday, this week's weather has been a series of drastic swings. That will continue this weekend. Today's high will be about 60 degrees, putting it close to the record high of 62 degrees set in 1959. Sunday's high will be near 45 degrees, keeping the record of 70 degrees set in 1906 safe for at least another year. Last week, the temperatures went from an early spring-like 62 degrees on Saturday to Sunday's more winter-like 32 degrees. The temperature drop also brought snow. By Tuesday, temperatures were back in the low 50s. On Wednesday, Philadelphia tied the 1990 record high temperature of 64 degrees, though, with the high winds and horizontal rain, few could enjoy the warmth. Nearly 95,000 PECO Energy customers in the Philadelphia region lost power because of the storm. Bucks County accounted for only about 8,500 outages, including three Bensalem schools, according to PECO. Montgomery County had the majority of outages, PECO said. The Bucks County Emergency Management Agency said the county saw only wind damage and fallen trees. No flooding was reported, said Director John Dougherty. The weather hasn't been bad news for everyone. The unusual number of warm days this month has had a positive impact on local golf courses. The Bensalem Country Club has seen "a definite increase" in golfers this week, said Jim Bogan, the club's golf pro. "December looked bleak, but January has been good. ... We have even seen some faces that we don't normally see until spring," Bogan said. JoAnn Polizzi, a pro shop employee at Middletown Country Club, agreed. She said January has been a good month. "For example, we've got a lot of golfers out today [Friday]," Polizzi said. Janine Logue can be reached at 215-949-4186 or news@phillyBurbs.com.
