The
F.A.S.T metallographic laboratory is equiped to prepare
& analyze samples of various alloys as well as analysis
for combined carbon content, carbon distribution, quality
control and part failure, etc. In addition, a final
report will be issued with each analysis upon request.

Buehler cut-off saw : Used to section parts
up to 2" to 3" in diameter. with automtic
cooling solution. |

Macro-hardness tester : Provides the capabilities
to use 60, 100 or 150 Kg load w/ ball or brale penitrator. |

Micro-hardness tester : Provides the capabilities
to determine actual particle hardness in P/M compacts
as well as, determining many different microstructural
phases. |

Unimet II Metallograph: Optical capabilities
from 50 to 2000 x magnifications (dry). Equiped
with automatic exposure meter for color photography. |

Olympus Metallograph: Optical capabilities
from 100 to 2000X magnifications (wet), with video
monitor for additional viewing capacity. Often used
for teaching. |

Balance : used for determining density measurements
in P/M compacts. |

Rough & fine grinding equipment : The
grinding grits used in this process range from 120
to 1,200 depending on the material to be processed. |

Rough & fine polishing equipment : The
methods used by FAST, Inc. provide a finished sample
with good edge retention, true pore structure and
a clear, crisp microstructure with no disturbed
metal. |
